Beach Runs – My Summer Training Ritual

I’ve been training for the Staten Island Half Marathon for the past four weeks so far, which is why I’ve been MIA on this blog lately. Instead of running around my town today, I opted to drive about an hour to go to Long Branch beach for a long run. I’m the type of person who gets bored easily if training in the same place every time. Plus, I don’t go to the beach often so I decided to make a training day out of it, even if it is an hour away. This isn’t the first time I did this — just a couple of weeks ago, I drove all the way down to Spring Lake and Belmar to run 6 miles through the boardwalk. It’s starting to become my summer ritual when it comes to training this year:

  • Drive down to the beach.
  • Run around the scenic route for an hour or more.
  • Relax at the beach for a couple of hours.

Thankfully the weather was beautiful, but extremely HOT! I had to do run/walk intervals in the middle of the long run due to the heat. At least I was able to enjoy the beach w/ a mojito afterwards.
